Between 2016 and 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to lead a Wellcome Trust funded project aiming to explore the introduction of innovative visual technologies, specifically time-lapse techniques, into the IVF lab. My aim was to explore how these technologies might reshape both professional practices and patients’ experiences within the fertility field.

Unexpectedly, within the project’s first year, time-lapse technology became one of the prominent ‘fertility add-ons.’ This shift in focus prompted new research inquiries: How is medical knowledge formed and validated? What role does evidence play in patients’ decisions?

With a fantastic team of researchers, we’ve delved into these questions, publishing extensively and engaging in vibrant discussions over the years.

Excitingly, in 2023, I received two additional grants to further investigate the challenges linked to the proliferation of fertility add-ons and the quality of information available in this field.
